See A Tire + Report A Tire

Picture
Kentucky Waterways Alliance is taking a stand against tire pollution in waterways across the commonwealth. Tires in waterways are indicators of larger issues including environmental health, public health, pollution, illegal dumping, and neglected waterways. In some cases, tires in waterways have accumulated over decades, been discarded  due to lack of affordable recycling options or misguidedly used as a method for bank stabilization. Through the Green River Tire and Access Identification Project, KWA and our partners are developing new tools and research to better understand this systemic and harmful pollution. Our tools aim to provide opportunities for community action and research that supports prevention, future tire removal efforts and mitigation opportunities. Tools include:
  • Report A Tire Tool: A free, mobile, participatory science online tool for reporting tires in or near waterways across the state. [Tire reporting Field Guide available below]
  • Green River Access Map (Coming soon!): A free, mobile friendly, online tool for information on river access points along the Green River.
  • Tire Risk Assessment Model (Coming soon!): A model for understanding tire accumulation within Kentucky waterways to remove barriers to planning waterway tire recovery events.
  • Tire Dashboard (Coming Soon!): A free online one-stop shop for utilizing reported locations of tires across Kentucky.
Get Involved
The best way to support this work is by using the KWA Report A Tire tool! Whether you are hiking, fishing, paddling, boating, or simply enjoying Kentucky’s amazing network of waterways, if you see a tire, report a tire! Scan the QR Code in the image to the left or follow the link here to report a tire today.
