Kentucky Waterways Alliance is grateful to have been chosen as the Kentucky Aveda Earth Month partner for the second year in a row! During the month of April, Aveda stores and salons across the state of Kentucky held fundraising events to raise money and awareness for KWA.
On April 3rd, a number of salons from the Louisville area and surrounding cities banded together to hold the second annual “All for One Great Cause” fashion show event. Salons playfully competed against each other in an “Iron Stylist” style competition (think of the Food Network show “Iron Chef”) where they were given articles of vintage and recycled clothing and accessories and had 45 minutes to create new fashions. 21c Museum and Hotel hosted the event and graciously donated 20% of bar sales for the evening. The event was hosted by The Voice-Tribune’s Angie Fenton, and celebrity judges crowned the winner. A silent auction included works by local artists and gift baskets filled with Aveda products and salon gift cards.
On April 28th, the Lexington Aveda store held a benefit concert at The Loft, a trendy spot in the heart of downtown Lexington. Bands Very Emergency, Fox Holiday, Coralee & the Townie Trio, and Matt Duncan took the stage and treated the audience to a thoroughly entertaining evening. Though the weather was bad, the event still drew quite a crowd! All cover charge proceeds for the event were donated to KWA.
Throughout the month, salons and stores also held their own fundraising activities, ranging from bake sales and used cell phone drives to “Appointments for the Earth” and $1-a-minute massages. Salons also had the opportunity to sell raffle tickets for a chance to win a week’s vacation in Florida. Congratulations to Dolores Arnold of Finchville, Kentucky for winning a weeks’ stay in Florida! Dolores purchased the winning ticket from Z Salon and Spa in Louisville.
KWA would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who made the 2011 Aveda Earth Month such a huge success!
